Hi there! My name is Kirsti Wiemokly and I am currently enrolled in the Bridges to the Future Program through the University of Massachusetts Amherst. As a member of B2TF, I am currently completing graduate course work and a year of teaching experience to earn a Master's Degree in Secondary Education. I teach three sections of U.S. History I (two honors and one college prep) and assist in a course on Human Oppression. Upon graduation in May 2014, I will be licensed to teach social studies for grades 5-12.
I have wanted to be a teacher from the time I was young. I have always loved school since I was little. I love the feeling of learning something new whether it be a new concept or skill. That feeling of expanding one's abilities is beyond comparison to anything else. I hope to bring a joy of learning and a passion for new adventures to my classroom .
While I love to study history, my main areas of interest are on the Holocaust, WWII, and genocide studies. I have found myself to be perpetually intrigued by these topics. By reading and learning about the subject matter much on my own, I have struggled with the unanswerable question of how humanity could allow such a horrifying series of events to happen. In search of an answer, I have realized that no two stories are ever the same and that there is always something new to learn. This endless amount of information is what sparks my interest and passion to learn more, and continue to teach others.
Outside of the classroom, my interests include coaching and playing field hockey & lacrosse, rock climbing, getting lost in a good book, exploring museums, and traveling around the world!
